Installation of this device usually takes about
1 to 2 hours to install. If you are mechanically
inclined and feel confident about installing the backup sensor system
yourself, you can do it. Otherwise, we recommend that the system
be installed by your local automotive repair mechanic or car stereo
technician.
- Remove one of your tail light covers, if needed,
to locate the reverse light connecting wires.
- Splice into the reverse light's positive and
negative wire and connect the system's two wires (positive and
negative) to the reverse light wires.
- Re-install your tail light cover.
Depending on the vehicle the bumper may or may
not need to be removed to drill holes for the sensors. Bumpers are
attached to a vehicle with bolts, screws and clips. They can be
removed with standard wrenches and screw drivers. If you can reach
behind the bumper and see behind it, removing the bumper may not
be needed.
- Use 22mm holesaw drill bit. Sensors should be
mounted two feet apart or closer to avoid sensing gaps between
the sensors' sensing scope. Note: Sensors are flush mounted into
the bumper.
- Route the sensor wires to the central processor
box.
- Reinstall the bumper
The LED display panel can be placed anywhere
inside the vehicle. We recommend that it be placed nearby the driver.
The speaker is built-in to the display. Only needed is to route
the display wire under the vehicle's interior panels to the final
location.
The design of this device does not require any special
maintenance. If the sensor(s) surface is covered with debris, it
should be cleaned with soap and water. Take precautions to not damage
the surface of the sensors. Always keep the sensors free from dirt,
snow and ice (do not clean the sensors with sharp objects). These
elements may cause the system to operate inaccurately. Cleaning
without sufficient water causes scratches that over time and may
degrade performance.
If the sensors are installed too close to an externally
mounted spare tire, the sensors will beeped continuously. Use this
method to determine if you can install the backup sensors system
to a vehicle with an externally mounted spare tire: Determine where
you intend to mount the sensors and then draw an imaginary line
45 degrees up from a horizon line. If the spare tire is within the
"site" of the sensor then you should reconsider where
to position your sensors farther away from the tire. If sensors
are mounted too low, they may detect the ground.
